Female assaulted at Newport Morrisons garage

A woman has allegedly been assaulted outside a petrol station in Newport. 

Officers responded to an incident where a female has allegedly been assaulted at Morrisons petrol station, in Church Litten at 8.44am on Tuesday (July 31).

The 25-year-old woman is believed to have suffered minor injuries and a 22-year-old man has been arrested and detained in custody.

Pictures from the incident show the police response involved up to three police vehicles.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: “Police were called at 8.44am. A 25-year-old woman had been assaulted, suffering minor injuries.

“A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

“He remains in custody at this time.”
