Islanders who have not yet filed their 2019/20 self-assessment tax returns were given a month’s reprieve this week when HMRC announced they will not receive a penalty for late submission, as long as they file online by February 28.
Any tax due must still be paid by January 31, with interest charged from February 1 on outstanding bills. Anybody who cannot afford to pay in full may be able to set up an affordable plan with monthly payments, but a 2019/20 tax return must be filed beforehand.
