The 25th anniversary of the formation of the East Cowes Town Council, which included volunteers taking part in the Big Help Out, took place in the Town Hall on Monday.

Among the visitors were the current town councillors, and a reunion of past and present mayors, including Margaret Webster, who was the original Mayor 25 years ago.

Cllr Karl Love said: “The councillors and mayors were there as part of the Big Help Out as they all give their time to help the town for free.

“We have a really special community here, people volunteer to take part in a variety of events, not because they have to, but because they want to.

“We’re so grateful to the Esplanade team and everyone else who is working so hard to improve our town without pay.

“The East Cowes Town Council has been here for centuries but in various formats but on Monday it was 25 years to the day the new town council was first formed having previously been a district council.

“It was also a chance to continue the celebration of King Charles’ Coronation.”

A special cake to commemorate East Cowes Town Council was cut by Margaret.
