On Wednesday (Sept 24) the IW Youth Trust’s taskforce will be holding a drop-in for anyone aged 11–24 interested in finding out more about what they do.
The taskforce meets at least once a month to discuss a wide range of topics, and meet other people from outside the charity, such as the Island’s MPs, IW NHS Trust staff, the Police & Crime Commissioner, or other charities and organisations who want to hear young people’s views and ideas.
Access to a new video camera has enabled the team to make short films to back up campaigns, or just to say short messages for social media. Members also take part in social action events, like beach cleans or help raise funds for the charity and have fun days out.
The charity hosts an annual Youth Voice Event, which created a six point plan, in 2024, and has influenced the Together for Children conference, hosted by the IW Council and youth providers from across the Island, to discuss the issues raised by young Islanders.
Being a member of the taskforce is an opportunity to boost your confidence, build self-esteem, and even strengthen your CV. You will discuss key issues affecting young Islanders like yourself and explore creative ways to bring about positive change.
The drop-in session starts at 6pm at Youth Trust House, 114 Pyle Street, Newport. It will finish by 8pm and snacks will be provided.
