After almost 70 years of supporting Island good causes, the Daisie Rich Trust last week brought together many of the charitable organisations it works with, to celebrate their achievements, and to thank the hard-working volunteers who help to deliver their services.
The evening reception, on Wednesday, June 12, was attended by more than 70 invited guests, including representatives from 30 Island charities.
Chairman of trustees, Claire Locke, praised the work of the wide range of charitable causes which receive funding from The Daisie Rich Trust.
To mark the occasion, Shanklin Voluntary Youth & Community Centre were presented with an Award Certificate for their exceptional, long-standing contribution to the Island community. They have worked in partnership with the Daisie Rich Trust since 1996.
Richard Priest, who accepted the Award on behalf of the centre, said later: “It was a really good evening, and seeing so many truly grass-roots organisations was really heartening. We can’t understate the difference Daisie Rich has made – thank you for the support in the challenging years.”
The event reinforced the crucial role played by charities, volunteers and local businesses, who can enhance the well-being of our Island by working together. It was sponsored by Geoff Leather Funeral Directors and HV Taylor & Son.
The Daisie Rich Trust was established in 1955 for the benefit of the Isle of Wight and its residents. It has made charitable donations totalling £4 million to date.
