Goalmouth scramble between Northwood and Shanklin

With the season coming to a close, Division Two Osborne Coburg completed the double with a Junior A Cup win. Ben Cutts celebrated a 50-goal season with a hat-trick, W&B’s win puts them reaching distance of the title, and Vics narrowly miss out on Wessex’s play-off place.

Island Leagues

Two goals from Ollie Frost saw Whitecroft & Barton continue their unbeaten Division One league run, with a 5-1 win at Binstead, with Josh Appell, Matt Evans and Sam Yelland completing the win, and Harrison Taylor scoring for Binstead.

West Wight won 5-3 at home to Cowes Reserves, with two goals apiece for Gareth Bricknell and Josh Daley, and one from Ash Brett.

Shanklin came back from 0-2 against Northwood, to win 4-2, with goals from Nicky Vyse from inside his own half, Cory Sanderson, skipper Peter Wilson, and Jason Smythers.

Ben Cutt’s hat-trick helped Vectis win 5-3 at home to Bembridge, with strikes from Darren Wood and Joe Houghton.

Ventnor won 5-1 away at Brading, with goals from Harry Mulholland, Fred Knowles, Rob Gee (2), and Alfie Donovan.

In Division Two, runners-up Wootton won 5-2 away at Newchurch, with goals from Nick Anstey, Macauley Barnes, James Cheek, Harry Collier and Josh Collins, with consolation goals from Pat Haxell.

Third-placed Niton beat Sandown & Lake 3-1.

In Combination One, Brading Res overcame Shanklin Res 3-2, consolation goals came from Ollie Fleming and sub, Nathan Martin. W&B Res, Bembridge Res and East Cowes Sports Res were all awarded home wins.

Osborne Coburg Res won 4-3 away at Vectis Res, with consolation strikes from Jake Toulson (2) and Wilf Roberts. The match saw the Symes brothers playing together after Harry’s broken ankle.

In Combination Two, leaders Bembridge A won 3-1 away at Niton Res, with Tyler Thorne scoring for Niton.

High Park Res won 3-0 away at Ryde Saints Res.

West Wight A won 5-1 away at Seaview Res, with goals from Jack Butler (2), Jordan Maloney, Sam Oatley and sub, Peter Millar, and Jack Robertson netting for Seaview.



In Division One, East Cowes Vics won 5-0 at home to Frimley Green, with goals from Jacob Reynolds, Jake Wright, Ji Nash, Jez Conway and Rafferty Boyd-Kerr.

Newport, who appointed Martin McDonough and Joe Butcher to run the side next season, finished their season with a 3-0 away win at Andover, with goals from Lewis Parsons, Joe Butcher’s penalty and Matt Oatley. Keeper, Gary Streeter, kept a clean sheet and was given a guard of honour in his last match.



Tomorrow (Saturday) sees Bembridge welcome Binstead COB, Cowes Sports entertain High Park, ECS play Northwood, and top-of-the-table clash between W&B and West Wight.

In Combination One, Binstead Res welcome West Wight Res, Brading Res host Ventnor Res, Shanklin Res play Northwood Res, and Bembridge Res home to Osborne Coburg Res. Newchurch Res and Niton Res finish Combination Two season with home matches against High Park Res and West Wight A.
