Saturday saw Ventnor host its annual Christmas event, organised by Ventnor Carnival, bringing together a wide range of community groups for a full day of festive activity across the town.

Santa made his arrival with a tour of Ventnor before heading to his grotto at the new Ventnor Carnival hub, where he remained busy throughout the day. Visitors were greeted around the town by people dressed in steampunk costumes, alongside characters including Dotty Poppy, Oddjob, Belle, Anna, Snow White, and Prince Charming.

With a Grinch theme running through the day, Better Days Café joined in the celebrations, with Cindy Lou helping Santa, while the Grinch attempted, unsuccessfully, to spoil Christmas. The Better Days Choir performed at Spring Hill Gardens, while members of Inner Wheel served hot food to keep visitors warm.

Ventnor Exchange hosted a mini market, and St Catherine’s School held a craft market, adding to the day’s shopping opportunities. Late night shopping took place across the town, with many shops decorated in a steampunk theme. The winning window was Magpie Blu, featuring a steam train display.

Entertainment included buskers, Ventnor Comic Jazz Band, a Santa Dash, and Santas on bikes, leading in to a lantern parade.

The day concluded with carols in St Catherine’s Church community garden, where around 100 people joined Abby Brass Band to sing, meet Santa, and enjoy mulled wine and mince pies, provided by the Ventnor Enhancement Fund. With fine weather and a strong community atmosphere, the event was described as Ventnor at its best.
