A registered nurse has marked 40 years of service to the Island’s NHS.
In 1980 Chris Couch trained to become a nurse. In 1982 she moved to the Island and worked at the Frank James Hospital. She then moved over to the Royal IOW County Hospital in Ryde. When that closed in 1991, Chris moved to St Mary’s Hospital and took up a post in the Intensive Therapy Unit.
After taking flexible retirement in 2015, Chris returned to work part-time as an assistant operational manager and, in 2022, returned to clinical practice in outpatients.
Chris said: “When I first started my nurse training I thought I was the luckiest person alive and, although we move with the times and technology, I still feel the same.”
The IW NHS Trust paid tribute to Chris on social media, saying: “Thank you for your many years of dedication and service to the NHS. We are lucky to have you as part of #TeamIOWNHS.”
