Childhood memories from Tritone Singers

By Press Release Apr 7, 2023

Tritone singers entertained the audience with ‘The Springtime of our Life’ last Friday at St Catherine’s Church in Ventnor. The choir was in excellent form with the programme a mixture of delightful songs and humorous piano duets, delivered masterfully by conductor Richard Wilkins and Michèle Brock.

The main item in the concert was the premiere of ‘A Child of Air,’ by former Island-based composer and choral conductor, Charles Paterson. Charles, and his wife, Sue, travelled from the mainland to be at the performance of this concert featuring the settings of seven short poems by Robert Louis Stevenson

The choir blended in sound and dynamics throughout the whole programme. There were moving moments in Chilcott’s ‘The Lily and the Rose’ and Peter Maxwell-Davies’ ‘Lullaby for Lucy,’ which contrasted with the lighter mood of A A Milne’s ‘Halfway down the Stairs’, arranged by Richard Wilkins and ‘Christopher Robin is saying his prayers’.

The second half opened with the ladies singing ‘Spring’ from Eastern Pictures by Holst, followed by more musically challenging EJ Moeran and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ pieces. The concert closed with the very jolly ‘Quick we have but a second’ by Charles Stanford.

Their next concert is at 7pm on June 10 at All Saints’ Church, Gurnard.
