Carisbrooke WI have been knitting and crocheting a large frieze of St Mary’s Church which is on display in the church hall.
Sue Biss, chairman of the Isle of Wight Federation, explained: “I first had the idea of knitting a scene of the church and churchyard last year. I drew a template for all the separate pieces and our members started to knit after Christmas. After pinning the pieces of the church in place, we started on walls, trees, clouds, and finally gravestones. It’s taken several weeks but its progress has been keenly followed by all users of the hall. We hope everybody will enjoy it.”
The frieze can be viewed on Wednesdays, from 10.00 to 12 noon, when the hall is open for Parsons’ Pantry, the community coffee morning.
