Bembridge Lifeboat’s annual ‘Open Day’, on Sunday, promises to be a fascinating and entertaining day out for all the family. From 11am to 4.30pm, the lifeboat station, at Lane End, will be open for visitors to see the lifeboats and learn about the history and the work of the RNLI.
The shop will be open all day, with lifeboat gifts, clothing and souvenirs, and there will be stalls with a variety of goods on sale. In addition there will also be entertainment and games for children on the Green and at the lifeboat station.
Drinks and refreshments, including home-made cakes, will be available from the Lifeboat Guild stall throughout the day.
As well as the fun aspect of the event, there is a serious side, too, with the accent firmly on safety in, on or around the water, with the RNLI’s water safety team on hand to give advice on how to keep safe in a marine environment.
There will also be a ‘lifejacket clinic’, where lifejackets may be brought along and inspected for safety and seaworthiness.
The event is free, but all money raised will go directly towards supporting our lifeboats, helping to save lives at sea.
