Blue House from The Bay Secondary School, Sandown, have raised more than £1,000 for Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat Station.

A school spokesman said: “We are incredibly proud of our Blue House council students, led by Head of House, Mr Bricknell, together they raised an amazing £1,020.52 for the local lifeboat during this year’s Blue House community day.

“Our students planned and led a fantastic day of fund-raising, organising a mufti day, pick ‘n’ mix sweet shop, mini marathon running event and a staff and student quiz. Their enthusiasm, team-work, and commitment made the day a huge success, with the funds raised going to support this incredible local charity.

“Our students then had the privilege of visiting the lifeboat station, where they met Mark Birch and members of the volunteer crew.

They enjoyed a fascinating tour, learned more about the vital work of the lifeboat service and proudly presented the team with a cheque.

“One of the highlights of the visit was climbing aboard the lifeboat and being pulled along by the station’s lifeboat tractor, ‘Sandy McPuller’ – a name chosen by our students last year!

“Our next exciting project is for students to design and create a brand new flag for the lifeboat station and we can’t wait to see their ideas come to life.”
