The Wight Brainy Bunch has been given a cheque for more than £1,500 from Sandown’s The Bay CE School.

Kathryn Grimes, founder of the charity, was presented with the money after it was raised on Blue House Community Day.

The Wight Brainy Bunch is a charity very close to the hearts of students and staff, as one of the Year 10 students are currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumour.

The Blue House student council worked tirelessly to plan the day, which included a non-uniform day, cookie bake-off and sale, a raffle and stalls. The day ended with over 100 students and staff taking part in the Blue House Quiz.

Gareth Bricknell, Head of Blue House, said: “I am really proud of the Blue House Student Council for all of their hard work and commitment to making the community day so successful. The local community supported the event and donated lots of fantastic raffle prizes, which alongside our fundraising activities, helped us raise a considerable amount of money to help Island families going through a tough time.”

Kathryn said: “What a wonderful bunch of students, working together to raise money and awareness of our little charity. So thoughtless and selfless. Thank you all so very much.”
