Barry’s Club started to help the bereaved

1 min read

A new informal bereavement group is being started by a widow who would like something positive to come out of her loss.

Mary Kershaw was widowed two years ago at the age of 53, and realised the need for a support group for people of working age that meets at weekends. She has now set up Barry’s Club, dedicated to the memory of her husband, who died of cancer at the age of 58. She said: “I, and others in similar circumstances, have found the routine of the working week gives structure to our drastically disrupted lives, but a lot of people find weekends and cooking for one particularly hard.

“There will be no pressure to talk about your loss, but I have found it helps just being with people in similar circumstances, who understand the heartache and all the other, sometimes unforeseen, issues.”

The new club will meet on the third Sunday of each month from 2 to 4pm. The Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary in Wroxall have generously offered the use of the upstairs area, over their new café barn. The first meeting will be next Sunday (Sept 19).

You can contact Mary to learn more on 551997 or 07407 370331, or email her on marylkershaw@talktalk.net.
