The second Accessible Activities and Services Day is to be held on Saturday 14th March at West Wight Sports & Community Centre in Freshwater. This free to attend event is being co-hosted by the Centre along with Island based charity Isle Access whose mission it is to make the Island more accessible and inclusive for people of all ages and all abilities. This unique event will showcase activities and services offered in the main by Island businesses, which enable disabled people to enjoy a better quality of life and achieve new skills and experiences.

Both disabled and able-bodied visitors to the event, which will be held between 10:30 and 15:30, will have the opportunity to discover new activities, from a varied selection of businesses, such as table-top cricket, kayaking and wall climbing to name just a few. CEO of Isle Access, Jan Brookes, is especially excited to welcome Carl of DaVinci Mobility who manufacture specialist mobility equipment including wheelchairs and bikes – some of which have off-road capability to allow the user greater access to more challenging terrains as well as a number of sports. Jan said, “One of our trustees who is a wheelchair user himself, has recently tried out one of these distinctive bikes on the beach and was absolutely delighted to now have the ability to walk his dogs along the sand without help, and is looking forward to being able to use some of the great walking paths on the Island.”

Isle Access would like to extend an invitation to Island Businesses who might like to support this growing annual event. “For charitable and non-profit organisations there is no charge to attend and for other types of business we just ask for a donation to the Isle Access charity” said Jan. She added, “This is an important day for showcasing how the Island can champion accessibility for all and we would love to see as many people as possible being involved in and on the day!”
