The Chukes of Hazard pulled into CHOYD, Yarmouth, last Friday to open a wild west-themed evening. The local foot-stomping ukers soon had a packed audience singing along to popular cowboy numbers, while Verity Bird’s uke-spoofs of ‘Jolene’ and other well-known songs were a delight.
Chris Hallam evoked lyrical outlaws of yesteryear, Westrop sang The Brighstone Cowboy, poet Graham Brown provided the guffaws, while Mayhem (Peter and Cheryl May) aroused the yeehaws! Hosts, Pud and Wiggy, capered about with a comedy horse and charmed the River Room with their ‘Island in the Stream’ skit.
Thanks to Doreen Fallows’ informative talk and the audience’s generosity, Figgy Gig raised £200 for Breathe Easy IOW.
The next Figgy Gig “Coronation Cabaret” is on Friday, May 5. Details from Jean G-Owen, creative director of the Naked Figleaf Collective, on 07715 985689 or email jean28owen@gmail.com.
