The weekend saw Whitecroft & Barton claim top spot on the Island, with a last-minute winner. There were hat-tricks for Sandown’s Ryan Worboyes and Gavin Dicker, as well as Binstead COB’s Scott Jones and Ash Smith. There were also Wessex wins, for Vics and Cowes. Invitation Cup wins went to Shanklin and Wight Eagles, including a hat-trick for Eagles’ Kira Smith.
Divisions One and Two
W&B go clear at the top of Division One, after a 94th minute winner away at Shanklin, winning 2-1 with a first-half goal from Sam Cant. Shanklin equalised, through sub, Lewis Parsons, with 10 minutes left, and W&B grabbed the winner, from a corner, with a Dan Pearson goal.
Cowes Sports Reserves drew 2-2 away at Osborne Coburg, with goals from Joe Calder and Luke Smallwood for Cowes, with Brad Kenning (2) on target for Coburg.
Bembridge & Vectis won 5-0 at home to Oakfield, with Michael Brown (2), Ben Cutts, Jake McNaney and sub, Aaron Shepherd, claiming the goals.
Injury to Ventnor keeper, Ollie Page, now recovering at home after attending St Mary’s Hospital, saw the Ventnor v Brading match abandoned by ref, Keyson Colebrook, with Brading leading 2-1 at the time.
The West Wight v Northwood match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
In Division Two, Alex Breingan’s second-half strike saw leaders, Sandown & Lake, win 1-0 at home to Ryde Saints, with Sandown’s Jim and Nick Cantelo receiving yellow cards.
Second-placed Binstead COB won 7-0 at home to Seaview, with goals from Scott Jones (4) and Ash Smith (3) securing the win, and an outstanding performance from James Milligan.
Niton drew 1-1 at home to East Cowes Vics Res, with Lewis Evans giving Niton an early lead, and James Cheek levelling late in the second half.
Pan won 4-2 at home to Newchurch, with stalwart, Keith Rust, scoring consolation goals in both halves.
Combinations One and Two
Combination One leaders, W&B Res, were held to a 1-1 draw at home to East Cowes Sports Res, after taking a first-half lead through Frankie Frost. ECS sub, Rolan Bryan Snr, levelled in the second half.
Bembridge & Vectis Res won 5-3 away at High Park Res, with Kudzaishe Mazambara, Lewis Parker-Meadows (2), and Bobbie Wye (2) giving Bembridge the win.
Sandown & Lake Res won 3-0 at home to West Wight Res, with Kai Westmore scoring before half-time, and Sam Carter-Knight and Rob Iley scoring after the break.
Oakfield Res won 2-1 at home to Osborne Coburg Res, with goals from Jamie Phillips and Nathan Roberts, and Isheanesu Goredema getting the consolation goal.
Ventnor Res v Shanklin Res was called off due to waterlogged pitch.
In Combination Two, Sandown & Lake A won 9-0 away at Newchurch Res, with 4 goals from Ryan Worboyes, a hat-trick from Gavin Dicker, and 2 from Lucas Creese.
Leaders, High Park A, won 8-1 at home to Ventnor A, with Daniel Verstraeten getting the consolation goal.
Wessex
East Cowes Vics won 5-2 at home to Hamworthy in the Premier Division, with 2 goals apiece from player-of-the-match, Josh Neale, and Jake Scrimshaw. Sub, Gareth Bricknell, added the fifth in the last minute of the match, and moved Vics to 11th place in the table.
Also in the Premiership, Cowes won 1-0 at home to Christchurch, after player-of-the-match, Callum Chase, headed home the winner in the 88th minute, following a free-kick from George Carter-Knight.
Women’s football
Shanklin Ladies recovered from a goal behind to win 2-1 at home to Liphook United, with second-half goals from Thea Broadhead and stalwart, Gemma Woodford. They progress to the third round of the Hants Invitation Cup.
Wight Eagles also progress after winning 8-2 away at Pace Ladies, with Kira Smith netting a hat-trick, 2 each from Aimee Rann and Mia Richardson, and 1 from Erin Sharp. Millie Tinsley was named player of the match.
