Wight Dolphins has welcomed 10 newly-qualified Ocean Divers to the club.
The BSAC Ocean Diver qualification is the entry-level open water diver grade, allowing divers to reach a maximum depth of 20 metres (about 65ft) in open water.
The group began their training with six theory lessons, followed by an assessment. They then each completed five sheltered-water lessons at West Wight Sports & Community
Centre, in Freshwater, over the winter months, developing the skills needed to progress to open-water training, which began in May 2026.
Under the supervision of Wight Dolphins instructors, the trainees completed numerous dives at Vobster Quay, and various sites around the Isle of Wight, both from the shore and the club’s boat, to achieve their qualification.
They can now use the qualification to dive at locations around the world. Several have already started developing their skills further by progressing to the next level, and beginning their Sports Diver course with the club.
