Enjoy the Great Wight Bite, with top chef, Valentine Warner, who’s giving a cooking master-class on stage, taking part in the Foodbank Challenge, and will also be helping youngsters learn to cook in Cowes this weekend.

The food festival was a huge success in its inaugural celebration last year, and is back at Northwood House on Saturday and Sunday. Valentine has starred in several cookery series, including ‘What to Eat Now’, ‘Coast to Coast’, and ‘Warner Eats the Sixties’, as well as publishing a number of books. He is looking forward to his time on the Island and getting creative with our local produce.

Valentine told the IW Observer: “I have visited the Island before, going to the Garlic Festival, and I can’t wait to come back.

“I will be looking to use some of the Island’s amazing ingredients, and cook some fish, including sea bass and mackerel. But I will tend to drift around with my recipes and won’t stick to what I have prepared, so things could change while I cook!

“I want to use sea buckthorn berries, which are quite bitter but delicious, as well as garlic and tomatoes.

“As well as being on the chef’s stage, I will also be cooking for the youngsters – it’s always important to encourage them in the art of cooking, so they can look after themselves when they get older – and taking part in the IW Foodbank Challenge.

“Once I’m finished, I’m hoping to have a look around and drink some cider!”

A keen fisherman, Valentine also hopes to find some time to get out with his rod and line while he is on the Island – doubtless trying to catch something he will be able to transform into a delicious meal.
