A long line of tractors wound its way up the Military Road as part of a charity ride-out on Sunday. The 37-mile ride-out was held by the Vectis Vintage Tractor & Engine Club and started at the Sportsman’s Rest, Porchfield.

Organiser, Bernie Kemp, said: “We had 24 tractors which was a great turn-out. We started with a great breakfast at the Sportsman’s Rest, and then moved on to Gurnard, Newbridge, Thorley and Freshwater, before a lovely sandwich and cake lunch was served up by one of our members, David Milsom, and his parents, Mick and Linda.

“From there, we went around Freshwater via The Causeway and onto the Military Road, carrying on to Brighstone and finally finishing at The Crown Inn, Shorwell, where a big crowd came to visit us.

“We started at 10.30am and finished at 3.30pm, so it was a great day all-round. We had collecting buckets for the IW Prostate Cancer Support Group and raised £486.47.”

The tractor club has been invited to take part in the Brighstone Tree Festival on Saturday, December 9, with the tractors organising a local ride-out visiting the venues with the vehicles decorated in Christmas lights.
