Tourists’ triple-triumph in this week’s cricket

Touring side, Downsiders, enjoyed a 29-run win at Porchfield, after scoring 132 all out, with Callum Capon taking 3-22 for Porchfield as they limited the visitors to 132 all out in the 44th over.

In reply, Island opener, Jack Ewbank, was out for a duck, with skipper, Jack Oliver, adding 15 alongside top-scorer, Tony Corbin (46), as the Islanders were all out for 103 in the 28th over.

The Downsiders also enjoyed a 4-run victory at Ventnor, and a 6-wicket win at Shanklin to secure a triple-triumph tour.

Cox knocks T20 ton

Steephill enjoyed a classic 400+ run T20 test on Wednesday afternoon, with visitors, Hampshire, narrowly beating Ventnor by 4 runs in front of an enthralled crowd.

Hampshire elected to bat and lost early wickets, but 50 from Zack Basey and an unbeaten 49 from skipper, Dom Kelly, saw them reach 206-6 from their 20 overs. Archie Lucy took 2-18, and there was a wicket each for Ventnor’s Ethan Short, Dan Cox, Dineth Thimodya and Tom Southcott.

In reply, Ventnor number 3, Dan Cox, struck an unbeaten 101 off 59 balls, including 4 sixes and 13 fours. He shared a 106-run partnership with Ben Attrill (22). However, the home side lost wickets at regular intervals chasing the match, and they needed over 20 runs in the final over; they finished 202-4 and, although celebrating a fantastic match in their anniversary year, will have thought about what might have been.
