Three people, two from Ryde and one Shanklin, have been arrested on suspicion of serious assault after a one-year-old baby was taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
Hampshire and IW Constabulary said officers were alerted to concerns for the welfare of the child at around 9.30am on Wednesday.
Police have now confirmed that a 26-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, both from Ryde, were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH). They were also arrested on suspicion of assault, ill-treatment or neglect of a child likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury.
A 26-year-old man from Shanklin was arrested on suspicion of GBH. All three remain in police custody while enquiries continue. No further information has been released.
