There were home-wins in this week’s hockey

Island skipper and scorer Adam Payne outstrips Fareham defence

IW Men’s 1st XI won a very close contest, at fortress Smallbrook. The finished 1-0 up with a first half field goal from skipper and talisman Adam Payne. There was solid defence from Alex Breach, and strong performances from player-of-the-match Gareth Holmes, Reuben Smallwood-Butler, Oscar Purser and Arran Wood.

The 2nd XI was awarded a 5-0 home win over Chichester Chipmunks.

IW Women’s 1st XI won 2-0 on the road at Swanwick & Fareham, with goals in either half from Evie Fairhurst. Solid performances came from player-of-the-match Tia Shutler, Hannah Pocock, Sophie Parkhouse, Cully Trevallion, Lizzie Dodds, Jaimie Payne and skipper, Katy Ednay.

Meanwhile, the Women’s 2nd XI lost 3-0 at home to Alton III, with Phoebe Heng player of the match.

A mixed IW side lost 3-0 away to a mixed Southampton University, with a player-of-the-match performance from Emily Lord.

Fixtures

This weekend, 5th-placed IW Men’s 1st XI face a trip to Wimborne Wayfarers in Counties South 2, with the 2nd XI also away at Basingstoke in Solent 1.

The 2nd-placed Women’s 1st XI welcome Bournemouth (10.45 bully off), and the II XI away at Havant IV.
