The one that didn’t get away

A fisherman has struck the jackpot for the second time in six months winning £1,000 in the Cardiff Bay Yacht Club annual cod competition on Sunday.
Jason Williams, 34, from Winford, landed an 11lbs 2oz cod with just 45 minutes of the competition remaining on Sunday to land his prize catch. He followed up June’s Sea Angling Classic victory with pal, Liam Smith, which netted him a boat and other prizes worth a total of £135,000.
Jason, a member of Bembridge Angling Club, said: “I travelled down to Cardiff with my fellow fisherman, Zac Harvey, on Friday, and the following day we went out to practice and try and find some decent spots for the fishing.
“On Sunday, the competition began with a total of 321 fishermen in 86 boats. It’s the first time I have been there and only started these big events last year – but I seem to be getting the hang of it!
“I landed the cod with just 45 minutes remaining, while Zac came 17th with his 6lbs 4oz cod.
“As well as the £1,000 there were a variety of other small prizes, and, just as important, it enabled me fee entry into next year’s Sea Angling Classic.”
