By Grace Roberts

On Saturday evening, an enthusiastic crowd gathered at Hazelgrove Farm, Ashey, near Ryde, to enjoy nostalgic disco music of the ’70s, at an open-air ABBA Chique Party Night. The tribute act returned to the Island for a third year to the Retro Staycations venue, to perform a concert of ABBA hits, such as ‘Dancing Queen’, ‘Waterloo’ and ‘Mamma Mia’.

Gates opened to the party at 5.30pm, and there were many local food and drink options for people to enjoy, including a bar supplied by Island Ales. The opening act, ‘Two Non-Blondes’, are an Island-based duo, who performed on the Bullet Airstream Stage before ABBA Chique took to the stage, comprising of a five-piece band and decked out in metallic outfits and platforms.

The event was filled with ABBA fans and sequin-wearing party-goers. Attendees praised the performance; one said: “The crowd was full of energy with lots of people dressed up for the party, and acting in the spirit of ABBA; all night people were dancing and waving their hands to the music – it was a great performance.”

The next upcoming event, by organisers Jack Up Events, will be the Jack Up Summer Party from August 10 – 11, located at Retro Staycations.
