Summer Supper to raise funds for the community tennis courts

The tennis courts in Northwood Park in Cowes are a fantastic community asset, and were fully restored several years ago after significant fund-raising efforts by Northwood House Charitable Trust, local businesses and many supporters.

With five tennis courts and one basketball court available that anyone can go and play on at any time for free, the facility has become very well used, particularly around the summer months and the start of the Wimbledon Championships.

The cost to maintain the courts to a good standard is nearly £4,000 a year, and the charitable trust undertakes various fund-raising activities to help pay for cleaning and ongoing repairs. On the evening of Sunday, July 7, an annual fund-raising supper event takes place from 6.30pm on the Northwood House lawns, adjacent to the courts.

The event is open to everyone and makes a fantastic evening out regardless of if you are a tennis fan or player or not. Tickets are only £22 each, and include a delicious two course summer buffet and a welcome drink, with live music and dancing from 8.30pm from popular local covers band “A Bit On The Side”. The Northwood House Lawn Bar will be open for drinks late into the evening, with a further chance to help raise funds with a raffle and silent auction hosted by local celebrity and G4 front man Mike Christie. A minimum of £12 per ticket goes directly to the court funds, so it’s a great way to support the community fund raising efforts.
