Students invited to explore career opportunities at Medina

Young people and their families are being invited to a free careers, education and training event this month, designed to inspire and inform about future opportunities.

Hosted by the Isle of Wight Council in partnership with Solent Careers Hub, the event will bring together more than 40 exhibitors under one roof at Medina Leisure Centre, Newport, on Tuesday, October 14.

Attendees will be able to meet colleges, universities and training providers, connect with local and regional employers, and explore volunteering and supported pathways to work. The event will also offer advice from support organisations and resources to help plan the next steps in education, training or employment.

Julie Lambert, post-16 manager at the IW council, said: “This year’s careers event is focused on ensuring that every young person on the Island has access to meaningful opportunities and guidance. Every young person deserves a positive start, one that empowers them to explore their potential, make informed choices, and step confidently into their future.”

The event runs from 9am to 2pm for school groups and from 3.15pm to 6pm for parents, carers and home-educated young people.

Short information talks will take place at Medina Theatre at 3.30pm and 4.30pm, covering post-16 options including supported internships and vocational qualifications.

The event is supported by sponsors GKN and the Southern Universities Network, which have helped cover transport costs for school visits.
