Christmas came early for children at St Mary’s Hospital, as nearly 100 bikers and scooterists rode through Newport on Sunday morning to deliver sacks of presents.
Shoppers waved at the bikes as they travelled along the High Street, while they were greeted by NHS staff and the children on their arrival.
The Christmas Toy Run has been run by Buster Spicer for the last five years, and he said: “I am totally overwhelmed with it all. As with every year, I thoroughly enjoyed putting this together, and it brings me great joy to see it all unfold. The chuffed little faces up at the Children’s Ward really melt my heart.
“Thank you, thank you. A million times, thank you to you all. Afterwards, I ride home with the biggest grin ever and I look forward to doing it all again next year.
“Special thanks to Mark Wroath-Bailey, who owns Little Fox’s cafe in Bembridge. His customers donated more than 40 presents to the toy run, and Mark’s wife, Nicola, also drove the presents in her car to the hospital.”
