The South Island Sevens international tournament arrives with a bang at Watcombe Bottom tomorrow (Saturday).

Gates open at 10am and the first kick-off is at 10.30. Then there’s world-class fast-paced 7-a-side rugby, in two 7 minute halves – men’s and women’s – all day until the final at 6:30pm. It’s not just for rugby fans – there’s lots to do and see – and eat and drink including The Mermaid Bar (gin, Pimms and Guinness) and The Thatchers Fire and Cider Bar with more than 30 ciders and delicious barbeques cooked on their wood-burning grills.

Tickets must be bought on-line. There are no ticket sales on the gate but the on-line tickets are available until 3pm on Saturday itself. Go to southislandsevens.co.uk.

And there’s more on Sunday, which starts with the Walk of Shame at 10am – then the women’s and men’s Tourist Trophy competitions take place. The Isle of Wight team – made up of a combination of players from the Isle of Wight club, the Hurricanes and Ventnor – will take part in the men’s competition. We wish them the best of luck. And even better – entry on Sunday is free!
