After what seems a short summer break, football returned with Cowes drawing 1-1 away at Laverstock & Ford in the FA Cup preliminary round. The first-half goal was courtesy of Scott McFarlane.
This weekend Cowes welcome Hamworthy Recreation. East Cowes, following their postponed match against Romsey, welcome Hamworthy, with Newport away at Ash. There are midweek games for Cowes away at Portchester on Tuesday, with Vics away at Clanfield on the same day.
On the Island, Shanklin celebrated a 7-0 friendly victory at home to Binstead. There were 4 goals for Cory Sanderson, and 1 apiece for player/manager Peter Wilson, Jamie Trowbridge, and new signing, Josh Field.
Brading won their match with Wootton 4-0, including goals from Finn Smith, Alex Biorand and Rich Scott (2).
Midweek Football
Cowes lost 3-1 at home to Laverstock & Ford in the FA Cup preliminary round replay, despite heroic saves from keeper, Ed Hatt. Scott McFarlane’s equalising first-half header was all the Islanders had to show for a battling performance, with the visitors netting twice after the break to get through to the next round.
