The annual Waverley Park ‘Music, Poetry and More Beer Festival’ lived up to its name – selling out of beer and cider while raising exactly £5,000 for charity over the weekend.

The festival in East Cowes, which has been running for 14 years, sold around 1,362 pints of ale and cider, as the crowds enjoyed local musicians and the spoken word.

Waverley Park owner, Julian Adams, said: “It was an incredible weekend, and the first time we have ever sold out of beer! We took an estimated £3,700 from beer and cider sales, and every penny will go towards our charity, Ability Dogs 4 Young People (IW).

“We had 20 local bands, who all gave up their time and skills to perform. The festival seems to get more and more popular – and we will be definitely ordering more beer for next year! We’d also like to thank Island Brewery for their donation of a barrel of Earl’s RDA.

“We estimate we have raised at least another £1,000 from the various charity-buckets, which were being passed around over the weekend.”

Among the bands and artistes performing were 5 Degrees North, Chasing Scarlet, Pistol Knights, Cornerstone, Dunebuggy, Graham Matthews, Regroove Disco Band and Texus.
