Sandown Beach rescue for elderly lady

Sandown Beach Life Guards came to the rescue of an elderly lady, who fell in the incoming tide at Yaverland Beach at around 6pm on Tuesday.

She suffered a nasty fall as she landed on her hip, after being pulled over by her friend’s dog, leaving her in a lot of pain. The Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and IW Ambulance arrived on the scene, but the beach guards had started initial casualty care.

The coastguards, along with a young girl and Bembridge RNLI, helped build a dam between the casualty and the incoming tide, to protect her from the water.

This gave the paramedics extra valuable minutes to administer pain relief and allow her to be moved onto the ambulance slowly and safely, before she was taken to hospital.
