Safe inside a bin

Island police have launched an investigation after a Newport shop was broken into in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The thief smashed the bottom pane of the door at the Works, on St James’ Square, between 2am and 2.30am, and removed the safe from the building.

Private CCTV from the area shows a green wheelie bin lying in front of the broken window, followed by the culprit leaving the store shortly after 5am – just a few minutes before a police car drove past the shop.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police on 101, quoting 44240046129.
