Matty Ward, a manager at Evolution Gym in Ryde was airlifted to hospital on Friday (July 27) when his motorcycle became involved in an accident with a van.

The incident happened in Whiterails Road outside Butterfly World, in Wootton Bridge at around 10.20am.

Mr Ward says he didn’t buckle his strap up on his helmet when he made a routine journey into Newport – he says that’s the unfortunate reason he suffered so many facial injuries.

“A silly little mistake which everyone does that had a severe comeback,” added Mr Ward from his hospital bed.

Mr Ward is currently in Southampton General Hospital and could be released on Wednesday (August 1) although he will require constant supervision.

His injuries include a fractured skull, broken nose, broken collar bone, cuts, bruises and he also underwent seven hours of surgery.

Over 600 people have wished the much-loved fitness enthusiast well on social media.

Now, the 29-year-old has released shocking images of his facial injuries to warn other motorcycle riders to ensure they’re protected before they head out on any kind of journey.
