Ryde firefighter Kierhan Dry running London Marathon for Wight Brainy Bunch

Kierhan in training

Island firefighter, Kierhan Dry, will take on the London Marathon on Sunday, April 26, raising funds for Island charity, The Wight Brainy Bunch.

An experienced runner, this will be Kierhan’s first London Marathon, having secured the charity’s single entry place. Completing 26 1/4 miles is a major challenge, but Kierhan is aiming to finish in under three hours.

For him, the marathon is more than a personal test – it is a way to stand alongside patients and families affected by brain tumours, a disease that can change lives overnight. “I’ll be running the London Marathon to raise money for The Wight Brainy Bunch, which is such a fantastic charity close to my heart,” he said. “Knowing the money raised will support such an important cause makes the training and the miles even more meaningful. I’m lucky to be able to run, so I want to use that opportunity to raise money for a charity doing incredible work.”

The Wight Brainy Bunch was founded by Ryde firefighter, Mark Grimes, and his wife, after Mark’s diagnosis in 2015. The charity provides emotional support and financial assistance to Island families, helping with travel costs, counselling, cognitive rehabilitation, specialist equipment, and memory‑making, or respite breaks for those with a terminal diagnosis.

“We are humbled that Kierhan has chosen to represent The Wight Brainy Bunch at this iconic event,” said Kat Grimes. “Running 26 1/4 miles is a significant physical and mental challenge, and we wish him the very best of luck.”
