The Royal Solent Yacht Club (RSYC, in Yarmouth, has presented a cheque for £9,205 to the Hants & IW Air Ambulance (HIWAA) after a series of fund-raising events throughout last year.

The Club’s nominated annual charity is aiming to raise £3.6million, to re-locate the HIWAA operating base from Thruxton to Southampton. This move will give the critical care team a more centralised position and reduce flight times to casualties on the Island.

The charity programme started in May, with the Prince Consort race, and continued through the season with further events including the Taittinger RSYC Regatta, Summer Party, Fandango Race, and Sausage Sizzle. There followed a Bingo Night in November, and the Christmas Squares Draw.

Separate donations by members and guests took the final total to £9,205. In addition, members Paddy and Jacky Sellers donated a further £5,000 directly to the charity.
