Royal Mail delays hit Isle of Wight as post arrives late

The postal delivery system has been criticised after a spate of late deliveries across the Island.

Readers have contacted the IW Observer in frustration, complaining they are receiving their post in batches or not at all.

One reader, who lives in Northwood, said: “In the last few months, we have not received several items, including something which was tracked and disappeared into the system!

“This last week or so, we have had no post; our neighbours recently did not have post for a fortnight. The biggest concern is missing out on hospital appointments.”

Another, in Godshill, claimed: “We only seem to get post in batches now – it doesn’t seem very likely that for a week nobody wants to contact us – and then suddenly the world and his wife do. Some of the letters are very important or time-sensitive – the Royal Mail needs to do better. ”

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We understand how concerning it can be when important post does not arrive as expected, particularly where it relates to medical appointments or other essential services.

“The vast majority of mail on the Isle of Wight is delivered as normal. Where short-term delays do occur, these are usually caused by local factors such as resourcing pressures or higher volumes, and targeted action is taken to maintain deliveries and minimise disruption.”
