Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s Walk the Wight 2026 will take place on Sunday, May 10, and registration is open for one of the Island’s most iconic fund-raising events.
The annual walk raises vital funds for the Island’s only hospice, and brings together thousands of people in a powerful show of community support.
“Walk the Wight is incredibly special for every single person who takes part,” said Mountbatten CEO, Becky McGregor, as preparations got underway for this year’s event.
John Giddings, organiser of the Isle of Wight Festival, which together with Red Funnel sponsors the event, has taken part in Walk the Wight himself. He said he is proud to support Mountbatten’s work and has seen, first hand, how the community unites behind the cause.
Participants can choose from a range of routes, including the full 26½‑mile challenge from Bembridge to Alum Bay, two half‑routes, the eight‑mile Flat Walk, the Schools Walk, or Walk the Wight Your Way, which allows supporters to complete the distance at a time and place that suits them. Entry costs £15 and includes an event pack, walker number, fund-raising tools, and a commemorative medal. Branded T‑shirts, caps, socks, water bottles, and dog bandanas are also available to purchase.
Founded in 1991, Walk the Wight now raises more than £500,000 each year for Mountbatten, whose staff provide 24/7 support to over 2,500 Islanders facing death, dying, and bereavement, the majority of it delivered in people’s homes.
