Regency ball draws dancers to Sandown’s Trouville Hotel

The Trouville Hotel, in Sandown, was transformed into a scene of Regency elegance last weekend as dancers, enthusiasts, and costumed couples from across the Isle of Wight and the UK gathered for the annual Regency Ball, titled The Seaside Ball.

Hosted by Mrs Bennett’s Ballroom, the weekend celebration brought together lovers of the period for a programme of Regency dance masterclasses, social gatherings, and historical attractions. Guests embraced the spirit of the era through dance, costume, food, drink, and shared enthusiasm for the period.

A highlight of the weekend was a live performance by the Warleggon Village Band, known for appearing in the BBC series Poldark. Their music filled the ballroom and provided the backdrop for reels, country dances, and elegant sets.

Many guests rounded off the weekend with a visit to Osborne House. The trip gave them a chance to enjoy more period atmosphere and reflect on a weekend shaped by history, style, and a shared love of Regency culture.

One first-time guest from the Island said: “Although this was my first weekend joining this event, I was warmly welcomed by everyone. It was a truly immersive weekend where I learnt lots, had a laugh and made new friends. I look forward to coming again next year.”

From silk gowns to dancers moving in step across the floor, the Seaside Ball offered guests a lively return to the Regency era.

Organisers said the weekend reflected the event’s reputation as a popular annual gathering for both experienced dancers and newcomers.
