A Red Funnel insider claims to have cracked the reason behind the troubled operator’s late and cancelled ferries — and, apparently, it all starts at the top.
CEO Fran Collins delivered a New Year message to staff reflecting on the “highs (and lows)” of the past 12 months, reassuring everyone that the company is in “very good shape.” She also cheerfully announced that raising investment is “progressing as expected” and will “conclude shortly,” enabling them to replace their Raptor vessels on the “previously discussed timescales.”
However, the last update about the “timescales” was back in May last year — when Ms Collins promised to great fanfare:
“The tender for shipyards to build the new ferries will be issued later this year.”
No investment is in place and placing orders for new vessels is still on the wish list.
One cynical employee told the IW Observer: “If our CEO doesn’t even know what year it is, it’s little wonder the ferries can’t keep to time. That festive message had way more lows than highs – even with her creative interpretation of timelines.
Maybe she’s working on ‘mushroom logic’ – keep us in the dark and feed us manure!”
