Red Funnel responds to last-minute government updates to new face covering rules

The updated guidance allows for the consumption of food and beverages, if passengers deem it necessary/unavoidable, whilst travelling

Following the government’s last-minute update over the weekend providing new details about the wearing of face coverings aboard public transportation, Red Funnel has once again updated its website with a new set of frequently asked questions.

Notable changes to the government guidance include more specific information about who may be exempt from wearing face coverings, now including children under the age of 11.

The updated guidance also allows for the consumption of food and beverages, if passengers deem it necessary/unavoidable, whilst travelling.

Furthermore, the revisions say that public transportation staff do not need to wear face coverings, and are included in the exemptions list. However Red Funnel’s current internal policy still requires staff to wear face coverings as part of PPE requirements, when in specific customer-facing roles.

The sales of face coverings have commenced at Red Funnel terminals and 100% of the net proceeds of all sales (profits) will be donated to the operator’s 2020 ‘Charities of the Year’ – Monkey Haven (LEAF Foundation) and Daisy Chains IW, which are both in urgent need of funding to carry on the important work they are doing on the Island.

Fran Collins, CEO, Red Funnel said: “We’re continuing to do our best to respond to all updates to government guidance as quickly as we can. We would like to thank all of our customers for their patience as we work hard to adapt to changes in government requirements and to ensure that all of our staff are up to speed. We will continue to encourage all of our customers to wear a face covering in line with the new legislation and to remind everyone that the rules are there for the collective safety and wellbeing of all on board.”
