Reach for the skies with new charity challenge

Lois ready for her paragliding challenge

Wessex Cancer Support is looking for 16 dare devils to take a leap into the unknown by signing up for the Island’s first ever sponsored paragliding challenge on May 29 and 30.

To raise money to support local people affected by cancer, participants will tandem paraglide over the Isle of Wight, enjoying spectacular views of the countryside and coastline.

Southsea-resident, Lois Marshall, celebrated her 75th birthday by taking on Wessex Cancer Support’s first mainland challenge in 2024, by paragliding 1,000 feet over the South Downs and raising £1,500.

She said: “I started doing sponsored charity events when I turned 60. Wondering what to do for my 75th, I noticed the charity’s paragliding challenge. Like many of us, I’ve known lots of people whose lives have been affected by cancer, so I thought I’d pluck up my courage and take it on! It was absolutely brilliant and I loved every minute. You’re never too old to take on a new challenge.”

You don’t have to be 75 to take on this exciting challenge! Registration is £50 and the charity is asking each participant to raise a minimum of £400 in sponsorship. To find out more and book your place, visit iw.observer/iw-paragliding.
