The IW Ramblers will be holding a rally, on Monday, to protest against an Island coastal path being blocked at Osbourne and Barton.
There are currently no public footpaths in East Cowes which lead to the countryside, with English Heritage citing security problems over a priceless collection of Queen Victoria’s belongings at Osborne House.
The 2,700-mile King Charles England Coast Path, a new National Trail, is being implemented and while the majority of the path around the country has been finished, the Island has yet to be completed.
IW Ramblers’ vice-president, Kate Ashbrook, said: “Osborne estate was given to the nation by Edward VII in 1902. A National Trail should be allowed through a national asset.
“So many other large estates, such as Blenheim, Stourhead, RHS Wisley, Windsor Great Park, all have public rights of way where people can enjoy our heritage.”
A series of events takes place throughout the day starting at 10.30am, when there is an exhibition and a talk at East Cowes Town Hall. There will be a picnic at Jubilee Recreation Ground in East Cowes at 1pm, followed by a protest to the gates of Osborne House.
