In Counties One, Sandown & Shanklin Hurricanes lost 83-7 away at Guernsey, and the Hurries 2nd XV won 72-0 at home to Bognor, remaining top of Premiership South-East.
Ventnor, in Counties Three, were awarded a home win. The Isle of Wight were disappointed to lose 20-15 away at Ellingham & Ringwood, their fourth loss in six games.
On a heavy pitch, the Islanders conceded early opportunities to trail 10-0 after 30 minutes. The Rangers responded with skipper, Luke Blackman, at centre, taking advantage of a good scrum to score on the flank and narrow the gap to 10-5 at half-time.
Despite the endeavours of player-of-the-match Ben Savill, Ellingham restored a 10-point lead on the hour, but the well-supported Islanders didn’t give up and, after a near miss, Blackman scored his second try of the game. Ellingham then had a player sinbinned for misconduct, resulting in George Huish kicking the penalty to within five metres of the try line. Blackman completed his hat-trick from close range.
However, despite determined efforts, the Island side was unable to regain possession before the ref blew the final whistle at 20-15.
Wight Wolves took part in the Andover Touch Rugby Tournament, with mixed results for the Island side.
