This year’s community quiz at Trinity Theatre was for the benefit of the Alzheimer Café.
Over several years the annual prize has raised many thousands of pounds for local charities. It is run by Cowes Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society, also a non-profit voluntary organisation, with the quiz-masters being the popular Pete and Tracy Asher. The organisers thanked everyone who attended and helped them raise £600.
Alzheimer’s Café is a charity which runs six cafés’ meetings across the Island, providing informal education about dementia with guidance and signposting to other services. They support people with dementia, their families, carers, and professionals, and anyone with an interest in the condition.
The charity has recently taken over the lease for Parklands, in Cowes, which will be transformed into a Dementia centre for the Island, open daily to provide services, help and information. The building needs refurbishment so the charity is looking for help with donations and for volunteers. If you would like to get involved visit iow.life/alzheimercafe.
