April road improvement works planned at three Isle of Wight locations

Arctic Road

Three improvement schemes will be carried out by Island Roads in April.

Works at Heathfield Road in Freshwater, Howgate Road in Bembridge, and Parkhurst Road in Newport were originally scheduled for late last year, but were postponed due to poor weather, as the materials to be used require dry and mild conditions.

At Heathfield Road, resurfacing will take place from the junction of Colwell Road to the High Street section completed last November. Work is due to begin on April 20 and last three days.

In Howgate Road, work will be carried out between the section completed last year and the junction of Egerton Road. This is scheduled to begin on April 23 and continue for three days.

At Parkhurst Road, the section from Clissold Road to south of the HMP Isle of Wight entrance will be resurfaced from April 28 over three night-time shifts. The work could not be completed during the recent Horsebridge Hill closure as it would have restricted access for residents.
Heathfield Road and Howgate Road will be closed between approximately 7.30am and 5pm, reopening outside those hours if safe. Parkhurst Road will be closed between 7.30pm and 6am and open at other times.

Roads improved in the first phase last year included Mayfield Road in East Cowes, Quay Lane in Brading, Shore Road in Ventnor, Freshwater High Street and Arctic Road and Bridge Road in Cowes.

Locations were selected following the annual road condition survey, identifying areas most in need of attention or improved skid resistance.

Around seven kilometres of road (approx. 4.35 miles) will have been improved once the April programme is complete.

The work programme remains subject to change, including due to weather conditions.
