As one of his final acts as High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight, James Attrill presented a High Sheriff’s award to Gillian Dale JP, on her retirement as chairwoman of the IW Magistrates’ Bench.

James said: “Gillian steered the magistrates through a few years including two difficult ones during the pandemic. As volunteers, magistrates play an increasingly pivotal role in administering justice and, as volunteers, give huge amounts of time in an unpaid position.

“I was very pleased to recognise Gillian’s contribution to justice on the Isle of Wight.”

The new High Sheriff for the Isle of Wight is Kay Marriott, from Cowes, who was appointed in a ceremony at Northwood House on Monday (April 11). Kay is a born and bred Islander and is a qualified nurse who has specialised in sexual and reproductive health since 1988, whilst also holding senior NHS management positions. Recently she has been very involved in helping to deal with the Covid pandemic, including the vaccination hub at St Mary’s Hospital.
