The Vectis A team

On Saturday, April 26, more than 90 teams from the Island participated in the Memorial Paul Westby Tournament, organised by Gurnard Youth Football Club.

Vectis A won all their qualifying matches and faced Downside in the semi-finals, which ended in a tense penalty shoot-out that went to sudden death. Vectis emerged victorious and advanced to the final against Shanklin Youth FC. The final was an exciting match, with Brook, from Vectis, scoring the opening and ultimately winning goal, with a score of 1-0.

Goalkeepers Jonah and Oscar made several crucial saves throughout the competition. Goals were scored by captain Bodhi, Alfie, Sonny, Will, Buddy, Rocco, and Brook.

Coach, Ash Jones, said: “I am proud of how they played on the day. This is the second year in a row that my Vectis team has won the tournament, and I couldn’t be more proud of each and every lad that played.”

The successful tournament was hosted by Heather and Mick Westby, in memory of their son, Paul.
