A popular coastal footpath through Spencer Woods, in Gurnard, is set for an upgrade, improving access from Worsley Road down to the beach.
Work began this week on installing timber steps and a boardwalk, along what has historically been an informal route. The enhancements are designed to make the steep terrain safer and easier to navigate.
The project is being funded by Natural England, as part of its England Coastal Path, a national initiative to create a continuous walking route around the English coastline.
An IW Council spokeswoman said: “We’re delighted to be moving forward with these improvements. Our thanks go to the landowner, Mr Richard Murphy, whose support has been instrumental in making this possible. This upgrade will enhance access to the beach and contribute to the wider coastal path network.”
The improved path will benefit both residents and visitors, whether heading to the beach for a swim, enjoying a woodland walk, or taking in the coastal views.
The works are expected to take between six and eight weeks to complete. During this time, the path will be closed to the public. Signage will be in place and walkers are advised to use alternative routes.
