Ryde Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club’s inaugural Padel Tournament saw a 48-player mix of beginners, experienced players and visitors participate in the event.
The plate final was won by father–son duo, Gordon and Sam Baker (13), who edged out Ed Stolliday and Barnaby King (13), in a thrilling final. The match was evenly contested and demonstrated the breadth and depth of talent among the juniors at the club.
The main draw saw Frazer Emms and James Smith overcome Richard Hutchins and James Cooney 7–6 in a nail-biting semi-final. Niklas Johansson and Liam Reese beat David Cartwright and Simon Jenkins 6–2. The championship final match delivered drama and quality, with Reese and Johansson narrowly defeating Emms and Smith 6–4. The only break of the match came in the ninth game, with Johansson serving out to secure the title.
Organisers thanked players and spectators for making the event a success, and special guest, comedian Jack Whitehall, for taking part in the spirit of the event.
